§ 01 · What causes it

The why.

UV exposure, hormonal shifts (melasma), post-inflammatory marks from breakouts, and genetics all contribute. Sun protection prevents further damage but doesn't reverse existing pigment.

§ 01 · How we think about it

The how.

IPL Lumecca is our fastest, most dramatic tool for sun spots and diffuse pigmentation. Chemical peels resurface gradually. ZO brightening regimens sit underneath everything as daily prevention and long-term fade support.

Typical plan

Most clients see dramatic clearing after 1–3 Lumecca sessions spaced 4 weeks apart. Peels and ZO regimens add gradual improvement over 8–12 weeks. Strict SPF 50 throughout, non-negotiable.

Spots darken 3–7 days after IPL and flake off naturally, this is expected, not a setback. Visible clearing at 4 weeks. Most clients see dramatic improvement after 2–3 sessions. Daily SPF 50 is non-negotiable to keep results and prevent recurrence.

Yes, with IPL, pigmented spots darken within minutes to hours after treatment, then flake off over 3–7 days. If they didn't darken, the treatment wouldn't have targeted them.
Melasma is tricky. It can improve or worsen with IPL. We usually use topicals, lighter chemical peels, and ZO regimens as first-line, and only consider IPL after careful assessment.
Lumecca is safer for darker skin than older IPL systems, but still carries some risk for Fitzpatrick V–VI. We assess at consult and may use topical or peel-based approaches instead.
